Types of Communities

Over the last four decades we’ve participated in an evolution in senior living communities to meet the growing and diverse needs of an aging population. This includes, but is not limited to:

Active Adult Communities

Active Adult communities offer maintenance-free, independent living in the 55+ market. Today’s active adult communities focus on wellness, education and healthy senior living themes.

Independent Living Communities

Independent living communities for age 55+ focus on the social needs of their residents, most of whom live independently without significant support. Services usually include housekeeping, an activities program and optional dining services.

Assisted Living Communities

Longer lifespans have increased the entry age in assisted living to the early eighties. Services available to residents may include help with normal activities of daily living such as, bathing, dressing, eating, and the scheduled delivery of medication.

Memory Care Communities

Memory care is often available in an assisted living community, or it is a standalone operation. Operators of dementia care communities are dedicated to improving everyday life for their residents who suffer from memory loss due to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities / Life Plan Communities

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) are increasingly popular for seniors who want to age in place. A rental model or “buy-in” assures residents that they will be able to have assistance and care at all levels of need. CCRCs have various plans for repurchasing a resident’s financial investment in the community when they leave.

Co-Living

Co-living brings small groups of older adults together in shared, professionally managed homes — private bedrooms with shared living spaces — delivering companionship, security and affordability at a price point below traditional care communities.

Intergenerational Living

Intergenerational communities deliberately bring different ages together — seniors alongside students, young families and children — through shared spaces and programs where every generation benefits from the connection.
